According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, computer makers have recalled 100,000 laptop battery packs by Sony Corp. due to overheating.
After 40 reports of overheating, Hewlett Packard, Dell, and Toshiba recalled the Sony 2.15Ah lithium-ion cell batteries. Smoke and flames have been reported in some incidents.
The bulk of the 35,000 computers sold in the U.S. being recalled were sold between Debember 2004 and June 2006. Approximately 65,000 units were sold outside the U.S.
The safety commission said that users should remove laptop batteries immediately and contact the manufacturer to request a replacement.
