Denture Cream Lawsuits

GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Proctor & Gamble Co., may soon be facing numerous product liability lawsuits alleging their denture creams may be responsible for zinc buildup in the body and neurological problems.

PoliGrip and Fixodent, two of the more recognizable denture creams on the market, are used by tens of millions of consumers, ranging from the elderly, who use it for dentures, to younger people, who use the denture cream for devices like bridges.

The lawsuits allege long-term usage of the product leads to zinc buildup and neurological problems because copper and zinc compete to bind to receptors.

The lawsuits are awaiting the result of a multidistrict litigation panel hearing in Lousiville, Ky.
