DePuy Hip Recall Update

Posted by PKSD Law Firm on Oct 22, 2010 in Defective Medical Devices

A recent study led to a recall of the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System and the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System, and as a result, thousands of patients who have had hip replacement surgeries are being reviewed for problems. Patients whose devices are found to be defective will likely face long-term complications including pain and additional surgeries to correct and replace their implant. One in eight hip replacement systems fails.

To date, there have been 400 complaints made to the FDA and approximately 60 cases have been filed in federal court. A multi-district litigation (MDL) panel hearing is set for November 18th at Duke university. The MDL will attempt to locate a federal court that is best suited to handle the claims.
