The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the woman who drove eight miles on I-94 Saturday and killed herself and the driver of another car in a head-on collision early Saturday.

Dawn M. Ewing, 44, of Pewaukee drove west for eight miles in the eastbound lanes of the interstate from Pewaukee to the Town of Delafield at about 12:20 a.m., the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department said. She crashed head-on into a car driven by Brian St. Germaine, 41, of Watertown, in front of a sheriff deputy’s car. Both drivers suffered extensive injuries and died shortly after the crash. St. Germaine was driving to work at Malteurop North America.

The incident closed the highway for more than three hours.

Waukesha Sheriff’s Department Capt. Frank McElderry said officials aren’t sure why Ewing drove the wrong way. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and toxicology results are pending.

“We’ll probably have more Monday or Tuesday when all the toxicology tests come back and all the autopsies are done,” he said.
