The first full week in October marks Residents’ Rights Week.  During this time we should honor all residents living in all long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, sub acute units, assisted living, board and care, and retirement communities.

Awareness of Resident Rights is critical to providing the dignity, respect and the quality of care that nursing home residents are morally and legally entitled to receive.  It is an opportunity for every facility to focus on and celebrate awareness of dignity, respect and the value of each individual resident.

Residents Rights Week is also a time to reflect on the importance of the Nursing Home Reform Law of 1987 which promises quality of life and care and residents rights for each resident.

Individuals and groups across the country will be celebrating Residents’ rights week with the theme, Recipe for Home and Creating a Home in Long Term Care Facilities.
