Wisconsin Traffic Fatalities Spike in August

A recent report by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation showed an increase in traffic fatalities for the month of August. The recent spike exceeded the five-year average for fatalities in August and brought the total killed in 2008 to 400. Despite the increase, the state is still 88 below the figure for the same point in 2007 and 108 fewer than the five-year average.
Although officials were unable to pinpoint exact reasons for the increase they did site the recent drop in gas prices which might have spurred people to drive faster and increasing their chances of causing a fatal accident.
Before the recent spike, traffic deaths had been lower in each month since October, when compared with the same month in the previous year.
