Wisconsin Crackdown on Holiday Drunk Driving Continues

As part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, running Dec. 18 to Jan. 3, an ad will run before the Star Wars: The Force Awakens begins for millions of Americans. The ad will feature and focus on a young man and woman whose reflections try to persuade them to drive drunk. The message conveys that people who are drunk are not sober enough to trust themselves to make the right decision not to get behind the wheel.

With law enforcement and education as drunk driving prevention, the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, along with other efforts, have minimized the number of collisions related to alcohol by 51 percent. Injuries have dropped 55 percent in Wisconsin during the past decade, according to the Wisconsins Bureau of Transportation Safety.

A 2015 AAA Consumer Pulse Survey that took place this past fall reveals that 78 percent of Wisconsinites believe a higher police presence is needed to catch drunk drivers this holiday season. The survey also revealed that 56 percent of people who drink said they are more apt to use a designated driver during the holiday season.

AAA Wisconsin supports this national campaign and the regional president, Vicki Hanson, urges residents to not let drunk friends or family drive.
