A Marinette man accused of drunken driving in a crash that killed five people near Peshtigo in Marinette County has pleaded not guilty to 21 felony charges, including multiple counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
The auto accident killed 44-year-old Joel Rivas and four of his family members. Two members of Rivas family were also pregnant at the time of the accident.
According to an accident reconstruction specialist, Powells truck was traveling 30 mph over the speed limit when it hit the car carrying Rivas and his family.
The maximum penalty for these charges is 420 years in prison and a $1.6 million fine.
