Slippery conditions and intense lake-effect snow contributed to several car accidents in Milwaukee on Sunday. Officials blame blowing snow fueled by wind gusts for massive whiteout conditions on interstates 94 and 43 north for the slippery conditions and low visibility. While no air travel was disrupted, officials reported nearly 14 crashes, spin outs and disabled vehicles around the area.
Driving in winter weather can be tricky, especially in whiteout conditions. Not all cars respond the same way to icy, slippery roads. For that reason, knowing how to handle your vehicle and how it responds in various weather conditions is important.
If conditions are bad enough that you cant see the roads, put on your four-way flashers and park in a safe place off the road. Avoid going to the side of the road unless its an absolute emergency, as this can create a dangerous situation for you and other drivers.
Here are a few simple tips drivers can follow to stay alive and safe.
