fatal truck accidentCharges are pending against a Milwaukee firefighter who was arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle in a fatal accident that killed two Monday evening in West Allis. The 31-year-old remains in custody on $120,000 bail, according to Milwaukee County Jail records.

West Allis police stated the man was driving a pickup truck southbound on 60th Street when he struck a minivan attempting to make a left turn. The accident pushed the vehicles into oncoming traffic, where they hit another car traveling northbound.

The driver of the van – an Uber driver – and a passenger died in the accident. The passenger in the truck and the driver of the third car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have determined that alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The firefighter was off-duty at the time of the accident.

The Milwaukee Fire Department issued a statement saying it is taking the matter very seriously and is conducting its own internal investigation into the incident.
