A licensed practical nurse (LPN) is facing criminal charges for using her position of trust as an opportunity to steal prescribed medications from patients. The affected patients are residents at a Knoxville, Iowa nursing home.
To gain access to the drugs, the accused Iowa nurse allegedly forged the signatures of other nurses on medical documents. By using these drugs for her own personal use, the well-being of nursing home residents, who had to go without their medication, was put at risk.
According to a news report, the former nurse was taking medications from residents between December 1, 2022, and February 26, 2023. The medications stolen included hydrocodone (as many as 403 tablets were taken), morphine (59 tablets), oxycodone (59 tablets) and liquid morphine (about 17.25 milliliters).
The complaint against the former Iowa nurse was filed on September 20, 2023 in the Marion County District Court.
