A police news release says the female employee was found naked in the patient’s bedroom. The nurse had been missing in the facility for more than an hour and a half. Staff members looked for her and eventually discovered her in the victim’s bathroom starting to get dressed.
Staff members asked the resident what happened, and he said the nurse engaged in unwanted sexual contact with him. This was reported to management at the facility, and they told the Melbourne Police Department. The police interviewed the nurse and she said she was never in the room with the victim.
The male victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center and underwent a sexual assault kit. From this kit, DNA evidence was obtained that was given to the Melbourne Police Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement at the end of March. Testing from the kit confirmed the victim’s claim, according to police.
The nurse has been charged with Lewd and Lascivious Molestation of an Elderly Person and Abuse of an Elderly Person. After her arrest she was transported to the Brevard County Jail.
The elderly are often taken advantage of, particularly in environments like nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The perpetrators think they will be able to get away with it because of the physical and mental limitations of the victims.
However, when abuse occurs, family members can take action. Our Wisconsin nursing home abuse lawyers have in-depth knowledge of these cases and what it takes to prove abuse or neglect occurred.
