ambulance workersA 46-year-old woman and an eight-year-old child were killed and five people, including three children, were injured in a hit and run accident with a stolen SUV on Milwaukee’s west side on Friday, May 27.

According to a news release from the Milwaukee Police Department, the victims were traveling north on 39th Street in a 1999 Hyundai Elantra just after 3:30 p.m.

As the vehicle passed through the intersection at W. Hadley Street, the driver of a stolen Audi Q7, who was traveling west at a high rate of speed, ran a stop sign and slammed into the car. The Audi was reported stolen in Racine County nearly a month ago. Its two occupants fled on foot after the crash.

According to the medical examiner’s office, the woman died at the scene of the accident. She had been a passenger in the Hyundai, sitting in the backseat with four children, who were not wearing seatbelts.

One of the children died at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin on Sunday. A 28-year-old woman, along with the 26-year-old driver and three children ages seven, five and three were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and are expected to survive.

A relative of the family told investigators that the family was on their way to a movie when the accident happened.

Police are still looking for the two men who fled after the accident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call (414) 935-7360.
