The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be on the look out for deer in the month of June.
According to DOT statistics, June is the worst or second worst month for car-deer crashes. Deer-car collisions are the third-most common vehicle crash in the state. The most common is vehicle-vehicle followed by vehicle-fixed object.
DOT officials say this is the time of year that does are looking for places to give birth, and fawns are wandering off after separating from their moms.
Last year, there were 16,338 deer vs. motor vehicle crashes in Wisconsin. Dane County had the most crashes with 873, followed by Waukesha with 680 and Shawano County with 648.
