Wisconsin Seatbelt Use at All-Time High

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) reports that seatbelt use is at an all-time high across the state.

A new survey conducted by the Wisconsin DOT found that more than 88 percent of motorists in passenger vehicles reported using their seatbelts in the month of July. The department’s 2015 survey uncovered an 86 percent seatbelt usage rate.

Law enforcement is said to have played a critical role in the impressive seatbelt usage rates. Officials believe the threat of seatbelt-related traffic stops are encouraging motorists to act safely and wear their seatbelts. The nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign is highlighting the importance of seatbelt use, and turning the practice into a social norm.

According to the Wisconsin DOT, children between the ages of 5 and 15 were the group most likely to use their seatbelts, while adults between the ages of 25 to 59 were least likely.

Gender seems to make a difference in seatbelt use as 93 percent of women respondents report using their seatbelts, while only 84 percent of men say they wear their seatbelt.
