Forty-seven-year-old Anita Brenett Watford was arrested last week and subsequently indicted by a grand jury for the alleged abuse of an unnamed victim who was a resident at Glen Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center in Northport last year. Watfords actions violated the Adult Protective Services Act of 1976.
According to reports, the elderly woman repeatedly spit out her medication while Watford was attempting to administer it to her. Watford claimed she was merely trying to restrain the woman to give her the medication but eyewitness accounts contradict this story.
Joy Patterson, spokesperson for Attorney General Luther Strange, said that Watson was indicted Oct. 31 and bond was set at $10,000. Patterson confirmed that Watford has since left police custody after paying her bond.
The act Watford is accused of is classified as a Class C felony because it caused physical harm to the patient. Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge James Roberts will hear her plea on April 3.
