A caretaker at The Montecito Santa Fe was captured on video yanking an 89-year-old patient from where she was seated and dragging her through the facility’s lounge area.
Other staff members who witnessed the caretaker’s violent behavior reported it to her daughter and showed her the video clip.
The victim’s daughter expressed her shock and anger that a staff member could be so aggressive with her mother or any patient in a public place.
According to District Attorney Marco Serna, the evidence was not enough to prove the nurse had committed a felony. However, Serna said they are planning to prosecute the nurse for a misdemeanor. The victim’s mother hopes prosecuting the nurse will prevent her from being able to hurt other patients.
The nurse is also being investigated by The New Mexico Nursing Board for her actions and may possibly lose her license. She no longer works for The Montecito.
