ProPublica’s analysis revealed that 36 of 74 Medicare and Medicaid-certified nursing homes in the state reported serious deficiencies between 2015 and April 2018. During this period, New Mexico nursing homes were fined a total of $2.42 million. These facilities also had their Medicare and Medicaid payments suspended for infractions a combined total of 44 times.
In recent years, more than 2,217 infractions at New Mexico nursing homes have been reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which governs nursing homes that receive federal funding.
