An out of control semi-truck smashed several cars and killed 2 people before running into an LA bookstore during the afternoon rush hour in La Canada Flintridge, CA.
The driver, Marcos Costa, 43, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular man slaughter and felony reckless driving after the car transporter truck he was driving went out of control on a busy highway that runs through town.
Unable to navigate a sharp turn, Costa lost control and smashed into several cars including the vehicle driven by Angel Jorge Posca, 58,and the passenger, his twelve-year-old daughter Angelina. Their car was pushed through the intersection by the truck and crushed.
In the wake of a similar accident last September, city officials have repeatedly complained about the intersection to the state Department of Transportation. City officials have asked that the state prohibit trucks on parts of the highway, post signs to warn truckers about the steep grades and install runaway truck lane uphill from the intersection, but the city and state officials disagreed on the location of the runaway truck lane.
