Lexapro is an SSRI anti-depressant that when taken during the early stages of pregnancy can produce serious birth defects. They include the following injuries to the heart and lungs:
- Pulmonary Stenosis
- Coarctation of the Aorta
- Hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension
Expectant mothers taking Lexapro or other SSRI medications should discuss these risks with their treating physicians.
