Lafayette County Crash Kills Three

A two vehicle crash on Highway 11 in Lafayette County took the lives of two people and injured five others.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer on Highway 11 crossed the center line and collided head-on with a four-door sedan shortly after 2 a.m.

Richard J. Christen, 67, of Monroe, the driver of the car; Carol A. Wenger, 70, of Monroe; and Kathryn D. Olin, 65, of Brodhead were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, Travis Kirschbaum, 20, of Glen Haven, and its three passengers: Neil R. Kirschbaum, 45, of Glen Haven; Ethan L. Koch, 21, of Cassville; and Joshua N. Kuenster, 19, of Glen Haven, were taken to Monroe Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A third passenger in the eastbound car, Richard Olin, 67, of Brodhead, also was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
