PKSD proudly joined Milwaukee’s Hmong community in celebrating 50 years since the first Hmong families arrived in the United States. As Platinum Sponsors, we were honored to commemorate this significant milestone that honors resilience, preserves heritage, and strengthens our diverse community.
The Hmong Legacy of Courage and Alliance
During the Vietnam War, the Hmong people served as crucial allies to the American forces. When the war ended, many faced severe persecution in Laos, Thailand, and across Southeast Asia due to this alliance. In 1975, following the war, the Hmong people sought safety and new opportunities in America. Their arrival opened a new chapter that would lead many Hmong individuals to become vital members of Wisconsin communities while preserving their rich cultural identity.
PKSD’s Celebration of Community and Heritage
This weekend’s anniversary celebration drew over 1,000 attendees, including appearances and speeches by state and local officials, such as Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and City of Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. Prominent Hmong leaders such as Pakeng (Rick) Vang, President of the Hmong 18 Council, Inc. of Wisconsin, also attended the celebration. Our attorneys, Pat O’Neill and Luke Mayefske, proudly represented PKSD, with Luke delivering the sponsorship acceptance speech as Title Sponsor.
Honoring the Past While Building the Future
This celebration served multiple important purposes beyond commemorating history. Honored first-generation elders whose courage made this journey possible and emphasized preserving Hmong cultural heritage for future generations. This event also recognizes the remarkable contributions Hmong-Americans have made and continue to make throughout Wisconsin today. As leaders in entrepreneurship, healthcare, education, and public service.
